FC Edmonton were back at Clarke Stadium for their battle with the Spring Champions and almost escaped with a big win.

Atlanta Silverbacks FC were ready for a battle from the start, but most of the first half could be described as a chippy stalemate.

The match would see 17 fouls recorded and five yellow cards given out between both sides.

The scoring didn’t open up until the second half when Atlanta’s Horace James broke in past the Rabbits defence to beat Lance Parker with a low strike on his left side in the 47th minute.

Atlanta would be unable to hang on to the lead as Chris Nurse levelled the game with a 68th minute header that got just past the reach of Atlanta’s Joe Nasaco.

The Rabbits had chances to put the match away but couldn’t slip a second goal into the Atlanta net, despite a spirited last twenty minutes.

Man of the Match Chris Nurse was pleased with his efforts. His equalising goal swung the momentum of the match in the home side’s favour.

“The goal changed the game; it gave the team a lot of confidence. You could see we started to play with a lot more confidence and started to attack a lot more. It was important for us and it shows the character of the team, being a goal down it’s easy to just get your heads down and not get back into the game.”

In their next match, FC Edmonton hit the road to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies on August 24th.
